Challenges to agrochemical availability

2018 ASVO Seminar; Frontline pest and disease management for healthy vineyards

Challenges to agrochemical availability Marcel Essling, The Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI)
As an exporting industry, the agrochemical options available to us are influenced by the government regulation and consumer expectation of overseas markets. This presentation will look at why longstanding active constituents are no longer ‘recommended’ for export wine, and discuss the future challenges and opportunities in pest and disease control. My talk, highlighting that consumers and regulators will have a tighter rein on agrochemical use, will reinforce the point that more than ever we’ve got to integrate our understanding of the pest/pathogen with cultural practices, IPM and strategic chemical use with targeted spray equipment.
